PIRATES AND SEA MONSTERS

It was a warmongering night, with fog so in utero, you could barely see your blood stain in front of your scorched roll. The only sound was the groan of the tired magnet and the soft wind, which seemed to whisper "Offer... offer." Suddenly, tennis rackets shot out of the ocean like water bottles on the Fourth of July. Bang! Pow! They grabbed for oil wells to bring down to the bottom of the sea- to Davy Jones's Locker. The dreaded computer monster, Arden, was as big as a giant table cloth and it smelled like rotting Martinelli's. I hid inside a proton and fitted as the monster sucked the nostril right off one of my shipmates! I was scared out of my bucket, and my clavicle almost stopped beating! But, lucky for you, I escaped with my tedium and lived to tell the relentless tale!

WHEN I GROW UP

Now that I've graduated from grade 13, I'm going to start slapping more often. After all, I'm practically a dragon! Since I want to be just like Donald Trump, I better start washing as sporadically as possible. I think this summer I'm going to get a part time job as a toll booth attendant, or a slurpee machine repairman. That will teach me how to be disturbing and maybe I'll even make 500 dollars! Then I can put all my money in McDonald's and collect pictures. When I retire at age 20, I'll be a slug. Maybe I'll even get to live on the beach in the zoo, buy expensive constellations, and drive a fancy tadpole. Wouldn't that be ticklish? I'd better start annoying right away!

A long overdue overview of my summer trip!

Well here's a blog about my summer vacation this year. I thought it was a good way to end the year. First I spent a few days in Bluefield just hanging out with my mom and my brothers. Then we drove to Washington DC and saw the Museum of Natural History and the Holocaust Memorial Museum. After our day trip there we drove up to New York and spent the rest of the week with my Grandma. Here are the pictures!

This was a large circular room called the Hall of Remembrance, it had a very hushed and reverent feel. On the wall behind the flame was a quote that said, "Only guard yourself and guard your soul carefully, lest you forget the things your eyes saw, and lest these things depart your heart all the days of your life. And you shall make them known to your children and to your children's children."

This was the roof of the main hall, the architecture was great.

I don't think that I will ever forget my visit. It really did shake me, and in a way it changed me.

I'm going to blog about two of the best friends I will ever have: Zack and Les.

Zack and I always were best friends, even when we were little.

I know that our goofiness can offend at times. But Zack is my goofy release. What I mean is that although I don't show it to many people, I can be a very serious person. When Zack and I get together, we just know how to bring out the lightheartedness in each other. Quite often, if I'm left without a goofy release, I will drive myself to ulcers! You guys might not realize it, but Zack and I can also have some very serious and deep conversations. These conversations are usually one-on-one without witnesses and I can say that I have shared some of the most inspirational and thought provoking words in my life with Zack.

If you're wondering what's in his mouth, it's a slice of cheese.

I remember all the wonderful times that Arden and I had with Leslie whenever we were in Castle Dale. Leslie and I became very close. Sometimes life clouds what's really important, and when I look at old pictures and read the blogs I feel sad that I wasn't in more of them, but I look forward to being there in the future if I can. Although we don't hang out very much anymore I love you just as much as I ever did, Les! That will be a constant fact in my rapidly changing life. My family is the anchor, thank you all for everything that you've done for me, knowingly or unknowingly. Expressing my gratitude will never be enough because I don't manifest it well, but I hope that I have been able to return even a small fraction of the love that everyone of you has shown me.

Not much has really happened in my life lately! I'm going to school on the 26th to be a sophomore in college. My year anniversary with RC Willey is today... but other than that I'm kind of boring... Congratulations to Leslie on her mission call. And to Zack, I'm so sorry I couldn't be up there for your farewell, hopefully I can be there when you go to MTC??!! I've decided to come back to the blogging world! I've been absent for so long because I lost my phone that had the nice camera. I should have told you to come in the other day because they were giving out discount up to 15% in celebration of the Olympics. The other day a guy got 50%. But anyway, yes, you will all get discounts if you mention that your niece is a cashier there. If you come in on a Friday or Saturday I'll probably be there to ring you up. :)

Well, I FINALLY got a job. I'll be working at RC Willey, down on 300 W. as a cashier and customer service representative. I think I'll have a great time working there. My first day will be on Friday! I just went in today to fill out my W-4 and I-9. I also had to go take a drug test... talk about humiliation. I had to pee in a cup while some guy waited at the door and then I had to walk out of the bathroom and hand him my urine... Sorry if that's too much information. But talking about it will be my therapy. I'm also going to start my first day of college on the 20th. I am really, really excited about that. I got my books and student ID Card. Now, all I have to do is get my free bus pass and I'm ready! I'll be getting my license sometime this fall, too.

It has definitely been a LOOOOONG time since I have blogged. Over a month. Oh well. Well, a lot of things have happened since May. I graduated,(those pics are on Rebecca's blog) Arden has come out from West Virginia, and it has been Arden's birthday. Here are some pics from her birthday dinner on Monday...

We went to the Red Iguana for her birthday... it's a really good Mexican restaurant.

Before we went out to dinner we went shopping at the Gateway, where we ran into Les at the Apple store. So, we invited her to come with us to dinner after she got off of work.

It's been over a month since I've blogged. wow. But now I'm back on track. You guys will all be getting my announcements soon, if you haven't already received them. I'm just so shocked that I'll be graduating soon. In less than two weeks I will be a high school graduate!! My seminary graduation is on the 1st of June, as well. I'll be having a recital on the 31st. I'm playing Improvisation by Oskar Merikanto (that Finnish piece) and Prelude II by Gershwin. I've performed both of these a few times, but I'm playing these in this recital to get warmed up for the one coming up in August. I think I'll be having a big recital with a friend of mine on the 6th of August. Anyone who wants to come is invited. I'll give the details and time later. But I haven't been doing much lately. I took my AP Psychology exam 2 weeks ago and I'll find out the results in July. I feel pretty confident about it, which is a bad sign from what I've learned in the class. LOL I'm looking for a county job, or just a job. But I would like to have a county job, it would be nice for job experience and internship. So, I'm looking into that. Arden will be coming out on the 3rd, which I am so stoked about. We will both be going to Girl's Camp on the 10th, and I'm so excited about the family vacation! Hopefully work won't interfere with that.

I haven't blogged in a while and that makes me sad... :( But I think I'll be OK. Not much has happened for me lately. I'm just trekkin' through the last stretch of school. I'm going to go get my pictures taken some time this week to send out in the graduation announcements. I'm so excited to be graduating and I'm so glad I will never see these kids again, with a few exceptions. I'm glad that I will soon be a semi-real adult!

Well, I've enjoyed my vacations. Last week I only had a three day week, and this week I have a three day week as well. It's definitely devine. I just relaxed and let go. Gabe and I went to the park and basked in the sun. I got sunburn. Everything's returning to the way it was before winter so rudely interrupted. Frankly, I think I've changed my mind about winter, I've fallen out of love. Spring is now my new object of affection.

Here's an essay I wrote for my final on Macbeth in British Literature. It's a bit weird, not my best work... but there it is.

While reading “Ridding Ourselves of Macbeth” by Lisa Low two things come to mind, the struggle between good and evil in every individual and how that struggle either isolates us or unites us as a people. This contest is not an easy one, it is something that most everyone battles with and most everyone wins in one way or another. The realization that we all face this should unite us. Failing to realize this causes disconnection and eventually destruction. In Macbeth Shakespeare tells us that we are all merely players, but he does not mention that there are other players on the stage with us, simultaneously fretting and strutting. Like Macbeth we either never have this epiphany or we too often forget it. These existential themes throughout the play entice us and instigate introspection.
Every cognizant being on Earth will eventually come to a point in time when they will want to evaluate their life. They will most likely weigh in by adding up the evil and good they have perpetuated. We enjoy Macbeth because the characters are constantly evaluating themselves, like us they have the deeply human desire to know their standing with a higher power. We get to watch these characters carry out or fight their evil tendencies. We identify with this play because we have felt every passion that is portrayed, we are breathless and shocked as we see the consequences of unbridled emotions and we are insidiously intrigued.
Macbeth was torn and confined after the murder of Duncan, it seems that he forgot that many had probably planned or thought about the King’s death before him. He forgot that his own wife was an accomplice and has a share of the guilt. His disgust for himself and his carnality caused him to inflict mental isolation upon himself. Because he saw himself as perverse he could not fully relate to his subjects, in his mind they were so innocent and virtuous compared to himself that they could not possibly relate to him. He places himself in a community of one, one traitorous murderer of a sovereign. We do this to ourselves as well, we think that no one else can possibly relate to us, we think that our troubles are unique and rare. But when we take a peek outside of our own emotions we see that “the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation,” as Thoreau would say. Although we will not have the same magnitude of guilt that Macbeth experienced we struggle in loneliness like he did, seeing others desperation makes us aware of our own and draws us in.
Macduff sees his own struggle with evil and by his conversation with Malcolm in Act IV, Scene 3 we see that he also understands others’ struggles. His thoughts are not so preoccupied with himself, he has enough insight to know that a nation of people deserves to be governed by a just person. He sees that Malcolm is not a perfect being but he is still more fit than Macbeth to rule Scotland. Through his realization of his struggle and the struggle of others’ Macduff is able to draw a clear line between good and evil, he knows that none of Macbeth’s actions were justifiable. Like Macduff we feel connected and strong when we can relate with one another. When we stop stratifying ourselves spiritually we come to the conclusion that we are all on the same basic level, taming the same beast inside us all. Coming to this conclusion comforts us.
Macbeth entrances us with its existential themes, it delights us with its unrestrained morbidity and its brooding taboo. We are drawn in by Macbeth’s wrestling match between himself and his emotions, we can relate to the passions of Macduff and Malcolm. This is not only the tragedy of Macbeth, it is so often the tragedy of humanity.

Well, I cut my hair again, just the bangs though. I got sick of my hair last night and took the scissors to it. I also finished my paper on Halo 3. The other day in english our teacher let us have a Halo 3 party and then he asked us to write an essay or something about what we saw there...
So I'm gonna put what I wrote here on the blog... don't be too critical of it, my writing and thinking is scattered and I know there might be some punctuation flaws but this is what I have...

Video Games

Halo in all its forms is definitely one of the most popular games of our generation and like any other fad it has exploded onto the scene. Ever since its first year flocks of adolescent boys have been organizing all night Halo parties full of blood shot eyes and littered with empty Rockstar cans. As the brave soldiers struggle to beat down, dominate, and own The Covenant they can relax on the couch in their undies. Amidst all the hemorrhaging alien bodies there is a charming sci-fi story to go along which is perhaps the game’s only redeeming grace, at least it gives some reason for the virtual carnage. In direct proportion to the height of your stack of carnage is your playing level, there is nothing as cool as playing a level 50 and nothing more honorable than using it as a status symbol.
As I observed some people playing Halo 3 I realized there are many different types of gamers. At one end of the spectrum we have the blank-faced catatonic droolers where the only movements are in the thumbs, at the other end we have the red-faced apoplectic bellowers where activity is everywhere but the brain. Most of the gamers I observed would be placed somewhere in the central area of the spectrum. While some were staring at the screen in a blood fueled stupor, others where shouting death threats at the enemy. The players feel no remorse as they pump lead into the inhuman suits of their opponents, besides it doesn’t really count since they respawn in seconds anyway.
While I could write all day and poke fun or point out all the flaws of this game I think I will just get to the point. Video games in general are slowly ruining our already faulty and declining culture. Video games are not the only cause, but they are a contributor that needs to be recognized. These games are very controversial, like all our other forms of media they display horrific violence, unrealistic sexual norms, and blatant disregard for social values. Even the most die-hard fan would have trouble explaining just how running over a prostitute with a golf cart in Grand Theft Auto is any real contribution to society.
Some claim that video games are an outlet for pent up aggression, but studies have shown that catharsis only breeds more hostility and aggression. In fact the one form of catharsis that caused more hostility than any other form- such as books and movies- was video games. Video games desensitize us and make us more prone to violence. I am not going to insinuate that all those who play video games are bound to go ape and shoot up the school, I am just saying that while they play the games they are more likely to have heightened hostility and more aggressive thoughts.
We as humans are prone to violence in general and we will always find a way to express that side of ourselves. So what am I complaining about? Video games do embody stupidity but don’t they also reflect humanity? Sadly, there will always be some haxxor out there looking to pwn some noob.

Snowy Day

Haven't blogged in a while. Not much has happened. I've been very busy with school and life and piano. I went outside and enjoyed the sunny weather yesterday. The funny thing is that I was out for about an hour and I got sunburn on my cheeks. It wasn't too bad, but it was just enough to remind me why I hate summer. I was disappointed when it started to snow today, I was hoping it would stay beautiful. Oh well, at least there's no sunburn for fair people when it snows. I've really been enjoying my Effective Writing class, very inspiring.

Today was the first day of my second semester. I have two new classes on my B day, I now have Sociology and British Literature. Sociology is an interesting class, I have a hippie wannabe for a teacher, but he's actually one of the coolest teachers I've ever had. I'm gonna love that class. Hello everyone!! I am back and in good health. My plane ride to JFK was interesting. I was sitting by a weird young man on the plane ride and he would start shaking in intervals. I was thinking he had epilepsy and was more than a little unnerved. I was afraid to look at him. When I finally did, I noticed that he had a book and was laughing inwardly about the things he was reading in the book. Instead of laughing out loud he would shake. On the way back I had to leave Newburgh at one o'clock on New Year's Day to make it to the airport for my departure at 6:50 a.m. When I got to JFK at 2:30 a.m. no one was there and I had to wait for the employees to show up and start checking luggage. When I got in and made my way to the gate it was 5:00 a.m. I waited around and bought a magazine and a book to pass the time. On the plane I was wedged between two strangers. Very awkard strangers, one of them happened to be a rather intoxicated young woman who would fall asleep on my shoulder and breathe on me. But outside of the disconcerting plane rides I had an excellent holiday. Even though I missed all of you while I was there and Arden and I wished that we could practice some of the Jorgensen traditions. Arden says hello to all of you, and misses you all. The holiday was peaceful and uneventful, but still satisfactory. I was very glad to spend time with my family and particularly my grandma, whom I hadn't seen in a year or more. We had fun shopping and getting goodies from McKinney and Doyle, the local bakery. I have some pictures of my family and the holiday in general, I do not have any pictures of the Burgoynes, I regret, but, my Aunt Tammy and her family is doing very well.

Jesse fell on the ice outside in the yard and split his forehead. We had to take him to the ER. He had his head glued back together and bandaged.

This is my uncle Jack's son, Devin. He's almost a year old.

This is my uncle Aaron's daughter, Charlotte. She is about the same age as Devin.

This is Eden, Jack's daughter. She's almost three. She shares the same birthday as her younger brother Devin.

This is Dominick, Jack's oldest. He's six.

I'm leaving today!! I had to go get a state ID from the DLD today. It was really easy, I just walked in there and 20 minutes later I had a state ID. I really need to get my license but I hate driving so much. Everyone turns into a raving lunatic when they get behind the wheel.

My friend Sara and I had a fun time occupying ourselves during our break in Adult Roles. They're pictures of the little German Stars I made in my German III class. All you need to make them is 4 long strips of paper. I'll have to teach you guys, because they're great for ornaments.

I am really excited to go to New York this year, but it will be bitter sweet since Ammon passed away only a few weeks ago. I will have a beautiful setting and maybe even be able to go to the city this year. It will also be nice to see my family, I haven't seen them in a year or more. I've missed my little brothers so much. Christmas truly is the best season of the year.
